About Us

Owner, Tara Baze, has over 15 years experience as a veterinary technician, including several years in emergency and critical care.  She has been an all-breed dog and cat groomer since completing grooming school in 2001.

Tara grew up raising and showing her family's Irish Setters.  Marquis was her family's kennel name and what the Resort is named today.  During her childhood they raised many quality Irish Setters, including multi Best in Show winning AM & CAN CH Marquis Midnight Special (once the top Irish Setter in the country).

During her childhood, Tara was also very active in 4-H.  She grew up with not only dogs but guinea pigs, English Angora rabbits, a horse and several head of cattle at a time.  Tara has always had a competitive side and would show anything that she had the opportunity to.  Before she had any other pets, Tara and her mom were always spending weekends at the dog shows.  When she was older, her dad would drop her off at a local horse facility on Saturday mornings and she would work and partake in any lessons she could get her hands on, from pleasure...to hunt seat...to reining...she loved it all.  She placed frequently at the county fairs with her horse, Duke, running barrels and poles.

In 1992 she was Scott County Beef Queen and District Beef Princess. Tara found this to be a great accomplishment in her life because she had not had an upbringing in cattle and learned a lot by research and trial and error.

Tara graduated from North Scott High School and attended Scott Community College briefly until enrolling at Black Hawk East in the Equestrian and Horse Science programs.  She has since been back to attend more classes at BHE.

After completing her studies, Tara remained primarily working for vet clinics. She has also since bred, raised and shown Labrador Retrievers on her own.  At one time she volunteered her time as a firefighter and received her license as an EMT until her family expanded and required her attention at home.

Bill and Tara reside on Bill's family farm with Tara's son, Brandon (14), their son, Alex (3), and their daughter, Shelby (2).  They enjoy much-deserved family time on the weekend and devote as much time as they can with their children.

Our Resort Manager, Missie Carper has been with us since October 2008.  Missie started out as our bather and has done an excellent job.  She has an incredible eye for detail as well as a genuine love for animals.

Susan Buss graduated from Stark Co. High School and attended Black Hawk College.  She has lived in Cambridge for almost 6 years with her husband, Kevin, and her two boys (Kaleb who is 9 and Christian, 6).  Susan was fortunate to be able to be a stay at home mom until both of her boys were in school all day.

She has always loved all types of animals.  Her parents were not animal lovers so she wasnt able to have many pets growing up.  If she was at someone's house that had animals, Susan was always with them....it didn't matter if it was chasing piglets, bottle feeding a calf, or just holding a cat.  Susan's first pet was a Dutch Dwarf rabbit but her favorite animals were obviously dogs.  Her family has a Puggle, KC, and a Lab, Cooper.  They also have a Netherland Dwarf rabbit named Buster and a cat named Izzy.

Susan has always wanted to work with animals but never felt that she would be able to handle what they do at a vet clinic.  She doesn't have the stomach for it.  Her husband wouldn't allow her to work in an animal shelter as he was afraid she would bring home too many pets.  She enjoys working at Marquis because she thinks it's nice to work with other people who share the same love for animals as she does, co-employees as well as clients.

Darcy Franks has been married to her husband, Jason, for 9 years.  She has three children, Cole (10), Cade (8), and Clara (5).  She also has two cats, Alexandria and Little Darcy.

Both of her cats were adopted from the Geneseo Humane Society.  Her family donates as much as they can to shelters for animals to have a temporary home.  Darcy believes it's a great place and she really doesn't know what she would do without her feline "children".  They brighten her days and teach her children how to be kind and gentle early on in life as well as love them as much as Darcy does.

Darcy has worked in daycare for 12 years and continues to do so.  She truly loves children, although when there was a position open at Marquis, Darcy really wanted to fill it because of her love for animals.  She also really believes that she has a future in this profession.  She feels that she has the compassion and patience that it requires and she works well with people and animals alike.  Her experience in the daycare profession requires her abilities to be tested on a daily basis and she feels that she meets these requirements well.

Darcy enjoys working with Tara and the staff at Marquis.  She feels everyone has a unity that helps things to run smoothly and gives client's pets the best quality of care.  Darcy really enjoys what she does and hopes to become a value to anyone that walks in to Marquis.
